Apple has rolled out iOS 18.3.1 and iPadOS 18.3.1, and if you haven’t updated yet, you should do so as soon as possible. This update patches a security vulnerability that has been actively exploited in the wild.

According to Apple’s security documentation, the update fixes an accessibility-related vulnerability that could disable USB Restricted Mode on a locked device. This flaw required physical access to a device to exploit, and Apple confirmed that it was used in targeted attacks against specific individuals.

    • Attackers with physical access to an iPhone or iPad could disable USB Restricted Mode, potentially allowing unauthorized data access.
    • Apple says this vulnerability was actively exploited in a sophisticated attack against certain individuals.

Apple resolved the issue with improved state management, making it harder to bypass USB Restricted Mode. Additionally, for older devices that don’t support iPadOS 18, Apple has released iPadOS 17.7.5 with the same security fix.

If your iPhone supports iOS 18, install iOS 18.3.1 to stay protected. iPad users should update to iPadOS 18.3.1 or iPadOS 17.7.5, depending on their device compatibility.

Security updates like this are crucial, especially when vulnerabilities are known to be actively exploited. Stay safe and keep your devices up to date!
